1.How about the reliability of SmartLock type-A and B?

SmartLock B-type lock is not the encryption in the traditional sense, but a locker to drawings, so that drawings can not be modified by others. But as long as you get the DWG file, you can open it and read without restriction. Thus it's not a top-secret file encryption, but merely to prevent competitors from easily stealing drawings and to avoid unintentional changes at work.
Locked entity by SmartLock_B is just a ghost image in computer memory, not the standard CAD objects. According to the current AutoCAD development protocols and standards, there is no way to restore drawings. If explode by special tools, it disappear immediately.
The above refers to the B-lock "core locking mode" and its combination pattern.

SmartLock A-type is a typical encryption. There are multiple measures to ensure the safety of drawings:

Is it possible that MD5 fingerprint might be decrypted by brute-force?
As long as the password is long enough, it can not be decoded. And the length of the drawings fingerprint password is greater than 64-bit.

The total composition for fingerprint of capital letters and lowercase + numbers is 26 +26 +10 = 62 characters. First, let's say "a ^ b" indicates a, b-th power. Suppose the password length is less than 11 bit, then from 1-11 bit, the total number of passwords is as follows: 62 ^ 1 +62 ^ 2 +62 ^ 3 + ... ... +62 ^ 11 = 52 889 619,055,703,278 000. Under the CPU of INTEL CORE T7100 1.8GHz, the decoding speed can reach 4 million passwords per second. To exhaust the scope mentioned above, the time will be 13222404763926 seconds that is 425,103 years and 12 days, 4 hours 12 minutes 6 seconds.

2.What are the requirements to run the software?

Specific requirements:

  • Require that you haved installed AutoCAD, currently supported version is 2004-2010.

3.What kind of industries will SmartLock apply to?

1) To the construction drawings Encryption: to adopt Type-A lock, files can be set to forbid modification, copy and so on, but can allowed to print, measure and object snap. 2) To the competitive bidding drawings encryption: Type-Block will be recommended. These steps won't bring any trouble to use the file in company A, but they will forbid company B to open its copy because B doesn't have the USB encryption sub-lock. Even though B gets the USB encryption sub-lock, the drawing still keeps the unrevisable watermark. If there is any need to accuse company B of tort, it's no doubt that company B will lose the lawsuit.

4.How to read encrypted files?

SmartLock_B lock encrypted graphics, can be easily opened without a password (unless you artificially increase the password), no need to install any plug-in.
To open SmartLock_A encrypted dwg files, you must install the plug-in before the AutoCAD opened. Generally plug-in is automatically packaged into the folder same with locked dwgs, and can run automatically. If it is failure to run automatically, please download and install. System with SmartLock_A will no longer need to install the plug-in.

5.Possible causes of encryption failure:

1, SmartLock A and B both need to adopt installation package to install, and cannot merely copy the program files folder from other computers, because DLL libraries which support all versions of AutoCAD are very complex.
2, There's no guarantee that simplified version of AutoCAD can run smoothly with SmartLock. So please install the full version.
3, Not do any operation to AutoCAD in the process of encryption, not even the operations of enlarge and shrink the window.

6.What are the features of encryption mode of SmartLock Type-B?


[1. Rapid Mode] is same as "shortcut mode" 3.X. Its speed is extremely fast. Its theory and effect is the same with Lockup.lsp, GstarCAD and so on. Once encrypted, the mode will able to be traced and restored.

[2. Core Locking Mode] this mode will be recommended as its extremely fast speed and high intensity. This kind of mode is already not to be named on the same day with V3.X.
The new version memory only stores the dummy screen impression of CAD drawings in computer dynamic memory. It will forbid editing, cracking, printing and inserting into other graphics.
The graphics can't be restored.

7.Why large files are not suggested to be encrypted by SmartLock_B?


It's not means impossible to encrypt large files. According to the encryption theory, Type-B lock will take much more time to deal with large graphics.
Though the size of files to be encrypted is not limited, it's strongly to suggest that the DWG file not to exceed 2M. Don't save dozens of drawings in a file. It's better to out one drawing in a separate file.
Why large files are not suggested to be encrypted? Is it simply to take 5 more times to encrypt a file of 10M than a file of 2m? It may far more than 5 more times. In fact, it¡¯s not simply the linear connection between the two. Because it will need abundant memory space to run a software, but the space for each computer is limited. If the space is not enough when a file is encrypted, it may read memory into temporary files over and over again to save the memory space. Thus the operating efficiency will be drastically decreased.
Anyone who is familiar with PHOTOSHOP might know that PS needs to setup several hard disks as the temporary files storage space. Take a 5M file as an example. It may produce a few megabytes to several gigabytes of temporary files. But why you don't have the feeling that the PHOTOSHOP runs too slowly? Because the large temporary files may be produced and transferred in the couples of hours of working process. But when SmartLock_B works on a big file, it needs to deal with the graphics concentratedly in short time. This kind of page file exchange will significantly reduce the efficiency.

8.The reasons for the partial lose of graphics after encryption & the countermeasures


Partial graphics will be lost after the file is encrypted. The most frequent reason is that this part of drawing is the special object¡ª¡ªuser-defined entity, drawn by the professional software. For example, AEC, they all adopt user-defined entity. They can only be explained and displayed by their own software. Without these software environments, they can't be displayed. Even though the file is not encrypted, this part of graphics won't be displayed on the computers which don't install the special software.

Countermeasure: with the help of the professional software you are using, you can transform the user-defined entity into AutoCAD native entity (which is objects drawn by naked AutoCAD).

9.The problem for partial text missing after encryption & the countermeasures


The problem might occur for type-B lock. For type-A lock, the text display has no any difference before being encrypted and after. The reason for text label lose after the file is encrypted is that the font file (*.shx) doesn't exist. If it's not encrypted, it will come out a notice to for you to choose to replace font or to show question mark.
Is it possible to change the font after the file is encrypted? For mode 1,2&4, ok; but for mode 3&5, impossible. Because the texts after encryption are not AutoCAD TEXT or MTEXT any more, ?they are only screen images. So it's useless to change the font type this moment. Besides, it runs automatically the operation of scrap cleaning up after the encryption; relative font type doesn't exist any more.
1, Before the encryption, use command "style "to replace the font and save it.
2, or to copy the missing font ¡®shx¡¯ file and save it into ACAD "support" or "fonts" path, which will get the font missing problem done once and for ever.

15.The steps to operate SmartLock_A & B software:


1, To start up the software: start SmartLock_A or B by clicking the desktop icon or the window start menu bar; then according to the AutoCAD version installed on the computer, choose to operate the relevant AutoCAD version.
